LudoSport light saber combat

Join us at 11am on Saturday, May 4, for a Discovery Class with LudoSport light saber combat! Learn about this exciting sport as we discuss its origins, principles, and application. Get hands-on experience with a light saber as you learn the base stance and grip, basic footwork, and proper striking and defense techniques. You will be performing partner drills and sparring by the end of the class!

And for those that want a deeper, behind the scenes look, join us at the main stage at 4pm. We will discuss how LudoSport was born, its founding principles, the forms of light saber combat as we practice them, and the weapon sets we employ in competition. See live demonstrations of the forms at full speed in live combat, and have an opportunity to ask questions about our sport.

For those interested in more details:

For the morning class, we start with about a five minute introduction to what LudoSport is and where it comes from. From there, we do a very light warm up and jump right in. We introduce the base guard stance, the proper grip for the saber, and basic footwork. After that, we begin with strikes and defenses. We try to teach three attacks and the corresponding defenses and have everyone drilling together by the end of the lesson, and try to allow time for sparring with the instructors. In a one hour block this moves very quickly.
For the evening presentation, we will give a more in-depth introduction to LudoSport, where it comes from, and its guiding principles. I will give a description of the five forms that have been released and the weapon sets and how they relate to combat. This will be interspersed with live demonstrations of full speed dueling. And, as always, time for questions and answers about our sport.
